DFA is monitoring the situation and working with the processors, the National Farmers’ Federation, Hort Innovation, and other federal and state government agencies to respond to issues our industry is experiencing.
While our office is closed temporarily, staff are performing their normal roles and are available to assist you over phone and email.
We understand growers have also received guidance from their processors. Please continue to communicate with them if you have any concerns or issues.
Hort Innovation’s COVID-19 page is updated regularly with alerts and information for growers and other horticulture industry members. It includes advice for businesses on how to operate safely; information on borders and trade, labour, and safety of horticultural produce; and links to financial and mental health services and support.
The FarmHub website, maintained by the National Farmers’ Federation, houses key information for the agriculture industry, including individual state and territory assistance, border control information, business assistance, basic health advice, mental health and wellbeing information, and frequently asked questions.
New South Wales Department of Primary Industries is an agency of the NSW Government, responsible for the administration and development for agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture, forestry, and biosecurity in NSW.
The National Farmers’ Federation has developed a COVID-19 workplace guide, which contains basic advice on managing the impact on farming workplaces, including relevant work health and safety and industrial relations considerations.
Work health and safety guidelines and industry information on COVID-19 can be found on the Safe Work Australia website.
The Fair Work Ombudsman website houses information on workplace entitlements, obligations, health and safety laws, and links to other government information and assistance.
Vic: Information and resources to help your business prepare a COVID Safe Plan can be found on the Victoria government website.
SA: Food South Australia has developed these COVID-19 and your workplace guidelines to help food and beverage businesses plan for and mitigate risks in the workplace for their employees, business and supply chain.
NSW: Resources and guidance on how to complete a COVID-19 Safety Plan for your agriculture business or farm.
MADEC’s National Harvest Labour Information Service (NHLIS) provides regular updates on COVID-19 and its impacts on the availability of seasonal workers. If you are looking for workers, contact NHLIS on 1800 062 332 (between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Friday).
